There’s a special kind of frustration in staring at an OTP box while the resend timer counts down. The good news: almost every case comes down to something on the phone, not the platform. Go through these in order.
1. Is the number exactly right?
Ten digits, no +91, no leading zero. A single swapped digit sends the OTP to a stranger. If you’re logging in, it must be the number you registered with — not your current WhatsApp number if those differ.
2. Is that SIM active for SMS?
Dual-SIM phones catch a lot of people out. If your SMS default is SIM 2 and IN999 is registered on SIM 1, the message may still arrive — but buried in the other inbox. Check both.
3. Look in the spam or blocked folder
Google Messages and many phone brands auto-file promotional-looking texts as spam. Open the menu → Spam & blocked. If the OTP is there, mark it ‘not spam’ so the next one lands normally.
4. Check DND settings
Full DND on your number can delay some transactional SMS. Partial DND (blocking promotions only) is usually fine. If you have full DND enabled, try switching to partial.
5. Respect the cooldown
Tapping resend five times in a row doesn’t help — it can trigger a temporary block. Wait the full countdown, then try once. If it still fails, wait ten minutes before the next attempt.
6. Signal, airplane mode, restart
Basements, lifts and crowded areas drop SMS. Toggle airplane mode on and off, or restart the phone, then request again.

Frequently asked questions
How long should an IN999 OTP take?
Usually a few seconds. Wait a full minute before requesting another one.
Can Jio/Airtel block OTP messages?
Not usually, but DND settings and spam filters on the phone can hide them.
Will support send me the OTP?
Never. Anyone offering to ‘send your OTP’ is a scammer.
